Tall white paschal candles are lit each Sunday throughout the Easter season beginning on Easter Sunday, and often until Ascension Day and for baptisms and at funeral services. The central cross identifies it as the Christ candle. The Greek letters Alpha and Omega, signify that the Word of God is present from creation until the end of time. The current year signifies that God is present among those gathered here and now around the candle.
